So I talk a lot. This is not so much a new idea as much as it is something I have come to accept. Since this recognition, I have come to a difficult realization - people aren't always listening.
This deeply offends me.
On Facebook, I am ranked #8 Best Public Speaker and #7 Best Listener (I am also high on the list for best singer and best dancer. I really appreciate that my ranks are related). I think I have found a good balance between talking and listening, so why is it taking everyone else so long to catch up?
Sometimes I say things that I think are pretty funny. Usually these things are off-hand comments about a commercial I am watching or someone on the street. They are born in the moment and cannot be recreated. So, when you say, "What? I wasn't listening" when we are the only people in the room and I am talking, then we probably won't be able to share a laugh over whatever funny thing I just said. In fact, I doubt I'll be laughing at all. I'll be sitting on the other end of the couch writing a blog about it because the internet can't tell you to shut up.
I guess the internet can't laugh at your jokes either, but at least it can't talk to admit that.
